Business district

There are also modern shopping centers here as well, along with a wealthy residential area.  The world renowned Scripps Memorial Hospital & Medical Research Center is here as well as the San Diego Mormon Temple – a remarkable 59,000 square foot building that resembles a large ice sculpture.

The Village
The downtown area of La Jolla offers shops, hotels, boutiques, restaurants, coffee houses, salons, and art galleries.  Even though this area is rather small, the district is full of trendy establishments that draw wealthy visitors from all over the world. 

Girad Avenue is the main street of La Jolla, even though Prospect Drive is known as “Rodeo Drive” in San Diego. 

Shoreline
Although the business area and La Jolla Village are both impressive communities, the most memorable region in La Jolla is the areas and communities along the Pacific shoreline. 

La Jolla offers some of the most impressive shore lines in Southern California, with remarkable caves, cliffs, beaches, and sunsets.  The best view of La Jolla can be seen from the air.  Daring visitors can take in La Jolla via the Torrey Pines Gliderport and learn flying.  If you seek a more tame view of the coastline, try the scenic drive along North Torrey Pines Road.

One of the biggest attractions here is the well known Fun Zone ferris wheel.  Since 1936, this wheel has proved to be a night and day landmark at the Fun Zone, calling out to all to enjoy the fun.  If you’ve ever been on a ferris wheel, you know just how much fun they can actually be.

In 1986, the Fun Zone was rebuilt completely from the ground up, adding to the already fun and exciting environment here.  The ferris wheel, bumper cars, arcades, and everything else here make the Fun Zone so much fun for everyone who decides to pay it a visit.

Located in sunny San Diego, the Belmont Park is one of the best amusement parks in San Diego.  With plenty for the entire family, this Park has something for everyone.  With rides for the entire family and basically everything in between, Belmont Park makes for a very exciting adventure.

The most distinctive attraction in the Park is the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster.  The coaster was built in 1925 and has been restored over the years.  This coaster is truly
one of a kind, as it offers quick drops, steep hills, and insane speed!

Belmont Park in San Diego also offers the endless wave, which is perfect for wave riders.  The Flowrider offers hourly rides, even lessons for beginners.  If waves aren’t your sort of thing, you may find the raceway bumper cars or the Chaos enticing.  Chaos resembles a ferris wheel, although it creates a random three dimensional rocking and rolling.  Anytime you get on it, no two rides are every the same!

On your birthday celebration day, make sure that you eat in one of the full service restaurants, and that you order the Birthday Bucket. It will be full of Disney treats, and it includes a cake. This costs around twenty dollars. Eat breakfast at Goofy’s Kitchen and you can get a Birthday Bag for five dollars.

There are many ways to enjoy your birthday at Disneyland. You will receive special treatment from all of the Disney Characters in the park. This can be a memorable birthday celebration for you or your child – so make sure you take lots of pictures, and

Anyone who knows me well knows that I like cheap and free things to do with the family. It isn’t that I’m not willing to pay good money for good fun, I just happen to believe that the best fun is sometimes as free as the wind. The same holds true when visiting new cities like San Francisco. I will invest a great amount of time looking for activities that me and other members of my family can enjoy for little or no money. This saves money for other things like good food and souvenirs.

I’m also a big fan of David Letterman and in that spirit I decided to devise a top five list of my very own in honor of Mr. Letterman’s Top 10 list. My big 5 list consists of things to do for free when visiting San Francisco.

1) Golden Gate Bridge. This is a favorite among tourists for many reasons. One of those reasons is the fact that it is one landmark that belongs only to San Francisco. It is uniquely a part of this city and represents, for many, your entire trip. Another reason is that there are so many ways to get there. I recommend walking and if you’re up for it, try one of the guided walking tours-this will provide valuable background information about the bridge as well as insuring that you don’t get lost on the way.
2) Golden Gate Park. This park is larger than New York’s Central Park and in my opinion equally grand. There is so much to do and see in Golden Gate Park that you could spend a good portion of your vacation here alone.
3) Cable Car Museum. Kids of all ages will find this museum interesting, especially big and little boys. This museum definitely offers a great deal of education and excitement for the family. In addition to learning about these neat cable cars which have become a trademark of San Francisco transportation. This is one museum I would pay to go to, the fact that it is free is a bonus that I can’t resist and the primary reason it is on this particular top ten list.
4) Walking Tours of San Francisco. These free walking tours are not only entertaining; they are also very informative as well. Learn about the history of the neighborhoods that this city is famous for as well as the great people who rebuilt a grand city, literally from the ashes of what it once was and made it even better. San Francisco has a wonderful story to tell and these guides narrate it wonderfully.
5) San Francisco Fire Department Museum. For the big kid in all of us that wanted to grow up to be a fire fighter, this museum takes the cake. Not only does it provide great historical references and artifacts but it is also really cool! I can think of no greater compliment to give a museum than that. This one, even your children will enjoy and beg to go back again and again.

Whether you are a big kid, a little kid, or just a kid at heart these activities are a great and inexpensive way to pass a day or two while on vacation. If you can’t stand the thought of saving money or not spending it, I’m sure each of these places will be glad to accept donations or at the very least sell you something at the gift shop (if the place you are visiting has one). Regardless, I hope my suggestions have gotten your mental wheels turning and you are coming up with your own great ways to enjoy the day without spending a lot of green.

 

Considering how San Diego is one of the best cities in the United States, its really easy to tell how popular the city is for tourists.  Among the many accomplishments behind San Diego, let’s take a look at several facts behind this amazing city.

Inside the city limits of San Diego, more than 1 million people live there.  This makes the city the second largest in California and the sixth biggest in the entire United States!  For the city to be this big, the residents still have that hometown experience – which is quite amazing!

No matter what type of year it is, it’s never the wrong time to visit.  The weather is near perfect year round, giving you the chance to experience everything to offer here.  With
an annual high of 70 degrees and a low of 55 degrees, you can pretty much go swimming year round.

If you visit between December – March, you can catch some glimpses of the impressive gray whale.  All along the coast or on a cruise, you can catch this very amazing mammal.

If you travel just 23 miles south, you’ll be in the beautiful city of Tijuana.  What was once thought of as dangerous, happens to be an amazing place of Mexican hospitality,
with great restaurants, shopping, and a pleasing nightlife.

San Diego offers an amazing array of flowers and roses.  With the climate being dry, it’s the perfect conditions for roses, wild daises, and other exotic flowers.  With different flowers in the winter and summer months, avid flower lovers will fall in love with everything San Diego has to offer them.

It’s no secret that one of the biggest attractions to San Diego are the beaches.  Make sure you read the signs though, as the beauty behind the beaches vary almost as much as the rules do.

When it comes to nightlife, San Diego has something to please everyone.  From country dancing to singing in a bar, the city has a very happening nightlife.  No matter what you like to do at night, San Diego has it all – and probably a bit more.

Fact 8
The most attractive feature to San Diego is the zoo.  The 100 acre zoo houses almost 4000 animals all of which who have plenty of room to roam around.  With pandas for everyone to see, the San Diego zoo is reason enough to give the city a visit.
