The “Autumn Purple” White Ash, Fraxinus americana, ‘Autumn Purple’, is a seedless male tree and is a cultivar of the species which is native to moist areas. This fast growing White Ash tree grows 2/3 feet per year. It is almost pyramidal with a round top when young, but gradually slows down and develops an oval shape. Sourwood
The Sourwood tree, Oxydendrum arboreum, is one of the most prized native trees, especially noted for its summer flowering and gorgeous fall colors. The Sourwood makes a nice small specimen tree for small spaces and looks great at the woodland edge. It is also known as the Sorrel Tree and Lily-of-the-Valley Tree. The bark is dark and blocky (alligator hide). Displays white Lily-of-the-Valley like flowers in July. Plant in full sun to partial shade in acid, organic, moist, well-drained soil. Osage Orange
The Osage Orange tree, Maclura pomifera, has bright green summer leaves with yellow fall color. The Osage Orange bears an inedible fruit resembling a woody orange. Native to the midwestern and southeastern United States, this species is also known as the hedge apple because it was planted in thicket-like hedge rows before the advent of barbed wire fences. The Paw Paw tree, Asimina triloba, is a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree with short trunk and rounded top that presents a semi-tropical appearance. PawPaw trees average about 15′ in height at maturity. It prospers in moist soils and when placed at the edge of a wooded area as an understory tree.
