Sweet Plum (sageretia theezans)

A tropical evergreen tree native to China. Has very small (less than 3/4″) green leaves which are lightly veined and almost bronze when they emerge. The Sageretia sheds its bark and the trunk becomes multi-colored. Small pink-white flowers in spring give way to small black fruits (3-5mm) during the summer and into autumn. Black Willow

The Black Willow tree, Salix nigra, is a small (sometimes shrub like) to large, short-lived, deciduous tree. It is fast growing and may reach maturity within 30 years. Other names sometimes used are swamp willow, Goodding willow, southwestern black willow, Dudley willow, and sauz (Spanish). This tree usually obtains a height of about 50 feet. Black willow roots are shallow and laterally extensive making them an excellent choice for stream banks and wet locations.

Tatarian Maple

The Tatarian Maple, Acer tataricum’, is quite similar to Amur Maple and the two species readily hybridize when grown together. Tatarian Maple grows slightly larger and is naturally more tree like in growth habit. The Tatarian Maples are slightly larger and usually develop a good red coloration when maturing. Fall color is usually yellow to reddish brown. A good tree for planters or patios. It has excellent small tree form and good foliage quality.

The Ann Magnolia tree, Magnolia x Ann, is a member of the ‘Little Girl’ series of Magnolias that are the result of a cross originally made at the U.S. National Arboretum. ‘Ann’ develops a somewhat open habit with deep purple-red, 7-9 inch petaled flowers. Ann Magnolia trees are vigorous and hardy. It forms a shrubby mound and has leathery green foliage. It has lightly scented reddish-purple flowers that emerge from beautiful, tapered buds. The Water Tupelo tree, Nyssa aquatica, is also called the cottongum, sourgum, swamp tupelo, tupelo-gum, and water-gum. Water Tupelo trees are a large, long-lived trees that grow in southern swamps and flood plains where its root system is periodically under water. This deciduous tree has a swollen base that tapers to a long, clear bole and often occurs in pure stands. The fragrant flowers entice many visits from spring pollinators. The fall color is yellow to purple.

Pignut Hickory

The Pignut Hickory tree, Carya glabra, has medium green broad, flat leaves and firm, gray bark. The bark may be marked in a sort of diamond pattern by shallow furrows and narrow ridges.
