Water Oak

The Water Oak tree, Quercus nigra, is also known as a spotted oak or possum oak. Water Oak trees are a conical to round-topped tree. It is a popular tree in the South as a shade and street tree. This deciduous tree is fast growing and it starts producing acorns before its 10th year. The Water Oak is found along streams and low ground. Water oak acorns provide food for many animals such as squirrels, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey.

S.E. Wild Crabapple

The Southern Crabapple tree, Malus angustifolia, also called a wild crabapple or narrowleaf crabapple, is a small tree. This deciduous tree grows fast and reaches a height of 30/35 ft. Its flowers have deep pink buds that open lighter pink, then eventually fade to white. In fall the leaves turn many shades of red, orange and gold. It has fragrant pink flowers in the spring and small green crabapples in fall. Its fall foliage is attractive. Small apples provide food for wildlife.

Flowering Bougainvillea (pink pixie)

The navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811) gave his name to this genus. Originally from tropical and subtropical America. Popularly known as the “Paper Flower”. Very delicate pink flowers that look like paper, hence the name “Paper Flower”. Actually, the flowers are bracts of leaves at the tip of the stems that turn brilliant pink in color.
