Southern Red Oak

The Southern Red Oak tree, Quercus falcata, is characterized by its rough bark. The Southern red oak is also referred to as Spanish oak. Southern Red Oak trees are a medium-sized tree with a short trunk and large branches supporting a rounded crown. The bark is dark gray in color, furrowed, and is marked by rough ridges and plates. The Southern Oak tree is deciduous and is a good shade tree adapted to drier sites. The wood of the Southern Red Oak is strong and coarse-grained.

Carpathia Black Walnut

The Carpathian Black Walnut tree, Juglans nigra, ‘Carpathian’, can be planted as a nut bearing landscape tree. Common names for the Carpathian Black Walnut tree are Persian Walnut, English Walnut, Carpathian Walnut and Madeira Nut. This deciduous tree bears nuts that are thin-shelled and easy to open. The tree’s crown is rounded, spreading and open. This selection comes from parent trees in central Michigan where trees crop abundantly although winter temps plunge to -34′ F.

Honeycrisp Apple Tree

The Honeycrisp apple is a high quality apple which keeps well for 5-6 months in common storage. The tree is one of the most vigorous and hardy of apple trees, showing little damage at -40 degrees. Needs to be thinned heavily. Its flesh is cream colored and coarse.The flavor is sub-acid and ranges from mild and well-balanced to strongly aromatic, depending on the degree of maturity. Great eating apple with its subacid flavor. Develops its full aromatic flavor if left on the tree until mid October.
