Forest Pansy Redbud

The Forest Pansy Redbud tree, Cercis canadensis, ‘Forest Pansy’, is an excellent small tree for lawns, woodland gardens or naturalized areas. Effective if planted as a specimen or in groups. It is frequently planted as a street tree in residential areas. It is a small, deciduous, understory tree with a spreading, flat-to-rounded crown. Heart-shaped leaves open bright reddish-purple and gradually mature to a more muted purple. Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade.

Okame Cherry

The Okame Cherry tree, Prunus Okame, is one of the earliest of the flowering cherries. Its carmine-pink petals, with rose-red calyx and reddish flower stalks, open fully before leaf break. It has a very consistent year-to-year blooming habit. At maturity, ?Okame? Cherry trees will attain 20-30′ in height with a similar spread. The young trees display a broad-columnar habit; older trees develop a more rounded habit.It makes a fine specimen tree and should be sited where it can be easily seen in late winter/early spring.

Green Smoketree

The Green Smoketree, Cotinus coggygria, is a deciduous shrub/tree. The branches are spreading, loose, and as wide as high. Green Smoketrees have bluish green, sometimes yellow like leaves. Their fall color is red-purple.This deciduous tree has showy pubescent pedicels and peduncles of flowers that provide the “smoke” appearance. Smoketrees like sun. It is a tough tree that is adaptable to widely divergent soils and pH ranges, and it is very drought resistant. It is a great accent tree.

Eastern Red Cedar

The Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus Virginiana, is a small to medium-sized aromatic evergreen tree. Typically, the trunk is straight and the tree has a pointed, dense, conical crown that may be varied or irregular, depending on ecotype or competing vegetation. The fruit, or cone, is berrylike and dark blue. Its deep roots and small leaf surface make it very drought resistant. The wood of the Red Cedar is fragrant and is used extensively for furniture. The foliage is bright green to dark green.
