Barberry (barberis concord)

The Concord has oval colorful leaves and small yellow flowers which appear in clusters in late April and are succeeded by bright red berries that can be appreciated after the leaves drop in autumn. The first flush of new growth on the “Concord” is a deep velvety purple. The leaves turn dark red in summer and hold that color both in sunny and lightly shaded locations. Decideous. Osage Orange

The Osage Orange tree, Maclura pomifera, has bright green summer leaves with yellow fall color. The Osage Orange bears an inedible fruit resembling a woody orange. Native to the midwestern and southeastern United States, this species is also known as the hedge apple because it was planted in thicket-like hedge rows before the advent of barbed wire fences. A yellow-orange dye is also extracted from the wood and is used as a substitute for fustic and aniline dyes in arts and industry.

Bing Cherry Tree

The Bing Cherry is one of the finest commercial sweet cherries and it is the most famous sweet cherry variety. It produces a very large, delicious cherry that ranges in color from a deep garnet to almost black. The skin is smooth and glossy and the flesh firm and sweet. Bing cherries are good for cooking as well as out-of-hand eating. The flesh is very solid, reddish-purple in color, and is flavorful and juicy. The Bing Cherry tree requires cross-pollination to produce fruit.

White Oak

The White Oak tree, Quercus alba, is a great majestic long-lived tree that will last for generations. It is an excellent wildlife source of food mass in the form of acorns. This deciduous shade tree has moderate water requirements and has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. Does best on deep, moist, well-drained, acid soils. Advantages of the White Oak are that they are easily transplanted when young and they have a high resistance to ice breakage and oak wilt. They require very little maintenance.

Bitternut Hickory

The Bittenut Hickory, Carya cordiformis, is also known as the Yellow-bud Hickory tree. The yellow bud makes it difficult to mistake for another species and combined with the alternate compound leaves and relatively large nuts, it is very distinctive This deciduous tree is found on moist, fertile soils in the east and central U.S. and is intolerant of shade. The fall color is often green to chartruese, but sometimes is a brilliant golden-yellow in excellent seasons.

Chanticleer Flowering Pear

The Callery Pear tree, Pyrus calleryana, ‘callery X Aristocrat cultivar’, is a tight, narrow, pyramidal, thornless, ornamental pear tree. Some specimens appear almost columnar in habit. Oval, glossy green leaves turn an attractive reddish purple in autumn. The growth habit is dense, narrowly pyramidal, and evenly branched with crisp glossy green foliage. Callery Pear trees are very hardy and fast growing. They are an excellent choice for a trouble-free, beautiful addition in any landscape situation.

White Spruce

The White Spruce tree, Picea glauca, has many common names including the Western White Spruce, Canadian Spruce, Alberta Spruce, Alberta White Spruce, Black Hills Spruce, Skunk Spruce, Cat Spruce, and Porsild Spruce. White Spruce trees can grow rapidly if placed in a well drained location and it is adaptable to many soil types. It makes a beautiful Christmas tree, ornamental specimen, when planted as a single, or it can be a steady windbreak when planted in rows.

Eastern Redbud

The Red Bud tree, Cercis Canadensis, is also known as the eastern red bud, and sometimes referred to as the Judas tree because it dates back to biblical times. It is a small deciduous tree that displays an abundance of purple blossoms in the spring. It has large heart shaped leaves during the summer, and long seedpods in the fall. It has low water requirements and displays a high tolerance to salt and alkali soils. Does well in many soil types, except permanently wet soils. The seed pods attract wildlife.

Texas Red Oak

The Texas Red Oak, ‘Quercus buckleyi’ is also known as Spanish Oak, Spotted Oak, Red Oak, and Rock Oak. This medium sized tree may achieve a height of 30 feet or more and an equal spread. The Texas Red Oak develops a rather typical shape and form for the species, with a dense rounded canopy. The Texas red oak may also be found as a multi-trunked specimen in the wild. They are moderately fast growing for a hard wood tree. The bark is thick with scaly ridges separated by deep, dark fissures.
