Techny Arborvitae

Japanese Five Needle Pine(pinus parvifolia)

This Japanese White Pine is the most commonly used Pine for bonsai in Japan. It is an evergreen with very short stiff needles forming blue/green tufts of foliage at the branch tips creating an overall fine texture to the tree silhouette. The brownish red cones are one to four inches long. The needles grow in groups of five which is why it is known as five-needle-pine. Hardy. Keep outdoors. 19 years old. 12″x8″x23″. Ligustrum-Medium (ligustrum lucidum)

Native to China and Eastern Asia and now grown ornamentally in the United States. The berries are employed as a “yin” tonic in traditional Chinese medicine for a wide range of conditions, including premature aging, ringing in the ears and chronic toxicity. Techny Arborvitae

The Techny Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis, is a fast growing Arborvitae tree that grows well in full sun or light shade. Techny arborvitae trees are very winter hardy. This cultivar is the most resistant to winter and drought damage and is the Arborvitae of choice for tougher conditions. This beautiful evergreen species has a deep dark green color. It can be sheared to shape when used as a hedge or privacy screen.

Wire Tree Sculpture – Gold Upright with Chinese Painted Ceramic Lotus Bowl (9″ x 11″ x 15″)

This one-of-a-kind tree sculpture is created by prominent artist Sal Villano and is fashioned with wire gauges ranging in size from 32 to 18. The wire used is electroplated onto steel wire to achieve the gold color and strength for many years. The tree sculpture is bonded onto its base, which is a Chinese painted ceramic lotus bowl, using sea sand. Since the bond is made onto a pourous material, a water soluable glue is used and therefore, the tree sculpture should never be placed in a dishwasher. Heavenly Bamboo (nandina domestica ‘firepower’)

Also known as Sacred Bamboo and is related to the Barberry. This tough as nails evergreen has fine lacey foliage which turns bronze and red in winter. It has unbranched reed-like stems. In spring new foliage appears as bright bronze red and is soon followed by large creamy white flowers. In summer, clusters of bright green berries appear and by late summer, the berries ripen to a bright red. Does well indoors. White Pine (pinus strobus ‘horsford’)

Loblolly Pine

The Loblolly Pine tree, Pinus taeda, is a fast-growing member of the yellow pine group. It is also called yellow pine, North Carolina pine, and oldfield pine and is the most commercially important forest species in the southern United States. Loblolly Pine trees can grow up to 100 feet tall and up to three feet in diameter; however, along the coast they seldom rise more than 50 feet. It thrives in a variety of soils, including well-drained upland areas with poor nutrient concentrations to poorly drained lowland areas and abandoned fields.

Black Locust

The Black Locust tree, Robinia pseudoacacia, is sometimes called the yellow locust. Black Locust trees grow naturally on a wide range of sites but does best on rich moist limestone soils. It has escaped cultivation and become naturalized throughout eastern North America and parts of the West. . It is widely planted as an ornamental, for shelterbelts, and for land reclamation. It is a very thorny tree which can attain a height of 70-80 feet and can have a diameter of 2-3 feet.

Copper Beech (fagus sylvatica ‘purpurea’)

Also known as Purple Beech. A great colorful addition to any bonsai collection. Has leaves that are reddish or purple. The purple color leaves turn to a bronzy green in the summer heat. Balsam Fir

The Balsam Fir, ‘Abies balsamea’, exhibits a relatively dense, dark-green, pyramidal crown with a slender spire-like tip. The scientific name “balsamea” is an ancient word for the balsam tree, so named because of the many resinous blisters found in the bark. Balsam fir and Fraser fir have many similar characteristics.The species thrives in cooler climates and demands abundant soil moisture and a humid atmosphere. A large percentage of Christmas trees are Balsam Firs.

Weeping White Birch (betula pendula ‘trosts dwarf’)

This dwarf only grows to 3-4 feet tall, and is highly sought after for bonsai. It has a fine textured thread-leafed light green foliage that looks like a weeping laceleaf maple. Has a peeling bark trunk with pendulous catkins. Distinctive white bark which is colored by a pigment called, appropriately enough, betulin. Much loved for bonsai because of their elegant beauty. Castleton Prune Tree

The Castleton prune fruit is of medium size that rarely split. It is one of the best eating prune available. This prune tree is very productive and is relatively small. The prunes are early and are a high quality blue plum, ripening a month before Empress.Dual purpose — a fine early dessert plum, but also an excellent processing variety.
