Canadian Hemlock

The Canadian Hemlock tree, Tsuga canadensis, is also called Eastern Hemlock or Hemlock spruce. This evergreen conifer is a fast-growing long-lived tree which unlike many trees grows well in shade. It may take 250 to 300 years to reach maturity and may live for 800 years or more. Shelter small plants from drying winds. They stand shearing and pruning well and are excellent as hedges. They are graceful and make great ornamental plantings.

Japanese Five Needle Pine (pinus parvifolia)

The Japanese White Pine is the most commonly used pine for bonsai in Japan. It is an evergreen with very short stiff needles forming blue/green tufts of foliage at the branch tips, creating an overall fine texture to the trees silhouette. European Beech (fagus sylvatica)

Naturally low branched tree with attractive glossy green ovate leaves which look similar in appearance to those of a Hornbeam. Variable leaves that are generally a bit wider than Japanese Beech. Smooth silvery-gray bark is quite ornamental. The bark looks like elephant skin on older specimens. The wood is almost white and is used most often in toys and furniture. The most distinctive feature of the Beech is its unmistakable cigar-shaped buds. These buds are rather tender. Natures way of protecting these buds is for the Beech to retain its dead leaves throughout winter. Decideous.
