Take frequent breaks when performing any repetitive hand activity, such as typing, knitting, or playing an instrument. Stop at least once an hour to flex your fingers and shake your hands.
Apply ice to your wrists when pain strikes. Use a flexible ice pack — or even a bag of frozen peas — and put it on for 10 minutes every hour to ease the pain and reduce the inlammation.
Elevate your wrists with a pillow when you lie down.
Salt promotes water retention, which can contribute to swelling and may aggravate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Try reducing the amount of salt in your diet and see if it helps.
Vitamin B6 : 50 mg 3 times a day until symptoms subside. 200 mg daily over long term can cause nerve damage.
Bromelain: 1,000 mg twice a day during acute phase. Reduce to 500 mg twice a day when symptoms subside. Take between meals.
Provides 8,000 GDU or 12,000 MCU in acute phase.
Turmeric : 400 mg 3 times a day. Standardized to contain 95% curcumin. Should be used with bromelain.

A multivitamin which supplies all your daily requirements of Vitamin B is supposed to help.

Know that there are 3 nerve tunnels which support the hand. If one gets wildly irritated, and the other two start burning too, the body is in major crisis and the very first thing to do is rest rest rest that arm.
First, most problems in the hands come from neck injuries – if you were in a car accident or some other fall which injured your neck, please see a chiropractor for xrays first then a program of adjustment.
Secondly, after the chiropractic is underway, find a massage therapist who is trained as a Rolfer. It is a 10 specific-step program which will re-align your body’s connective tissue and muscles to be in the proper & natural alignment.
Third, acupuncture can assist in the energy flow of your chi, which may be a factor stemming from an injury.
Definitely being very aware of repetitive motions, treating your body like a living organism rather than an extension of a machine, all will help you along with recovery and prevention of future difficulties.
As other people mentioned, rest, support while you sleep, ice when things are flaring up, the nutritional support for your body & nerves, are all excellent to do. You really have to do it all… all at once if it is very bad.
Had a nerve problem in my right arm/hand in 1991 and used these steps to heal myself. The left hand went off in sympathy and it was very freaky to realize how close I was to being unable to do anything for myself. All is fine now.

The central core of your nerves runs through your spinal column and if you experience a subluxation in your spine it will affect different parts of your body including carpal tunnel syntrome. I worked with a girl that wore the wrist band, was always in pain and finally she went to a chiroprator, a good one, and after suffering for about a year she was “cured” within weeks.

Years ago (like 15) I had this but I was lucky enough to get ahold of Kombu mushroom. You make a tea with it and after about 5 days of fermenting you drink the tea. After a couple of years of drinking the tea I’ve never had carpal tunnel.
