Sawtooth Oak

The Sawtooth Oak tree, Quercus acutissima, is a wide spreading shade or lawn tree. This deciduous tree is a great source for wildlife food because it begins to produce acorns in its sixth year in the nursery. It is a highly prized oak for wildlife enthusiasts because of the short time it takes for the tree to produce acorns. The leaves go from yellow to golden brown in the fall, and open to a brilliant golden yellow in the spring. Its growth rate is rapid for an oak tree, and it is a fast growing shade tree.

English Bluebells

The English Bluebells ‘non-scripta Hyacinthoides ‘, is a fall planted bulb. These English Bluebells produce elegant flowers with a honey scented smell. Hanging from the sturdy, round flower stalks are lots and lots of broad, bell-shaped flowers. There can be up to 100 bell shaped flowers per plant. The color of this species found in the wild is violet-blue, but there are also large-flowering pink, white, light blue and dark blue cultivars available. Plant the bulbs in locations where the soil is rich in nutrients and sufficiently moist, and do so as soon as possible after acquiring them. For the best effects, plant the bulbs in clusters of 10 to 15 bulbs, or scatter clusters throughout the garden or flower border. Bluebells bloom for a 3 week period in late spring/early summer. These plants are deer, rabbit, and squirrel resistant. English Bluebells are great for mass planting, containers, rock gardens, and borders.
